Behind the scenes

16th June, 2017

Our very first photoshoot took place today and it was amazing to see everything starting to come together. We worked with fantastic photographer Yeshen Venema and talented stylist Mugdha Sapte. Yeshen’s studio is set in an absolutely beautiful Georgian townhouse in Islington. Huge windows let the light flood in and really provide an inspiring setting. Having worked in the fashion industry for many years, photo-shoots are nothing new to us, but it was really interesting to work on a still life project for a change. Just as with fashion shoots, there’s a lot of hard work and planning that goes on beforehand, so on the day you know exactly what core shots you need to get, which frees up time for a bit of spontaneous creativity if inspiration comes. The difference is that with no models and no outfit changes it was a slower and calmer process then we’re used to – think lots of tea and coffee consumed against a backdrop of French radio – we particularly enjoyed our 3pm break for Portuguese custard tarts after shooting from 9.30am! You may notice quite a lot of flowers in this shoot – we absolutely love flowers and this was a great excuse to go overboard at the florist in preparation!

After spending so long obsessively thinking about how our gift boxes would look it was really gratifying to see them all wrapped up and looking beautiful ready for their moment in front of the camera.

It was a great day spent working with lovely people and we’re already looking forward to shooting the next collection ...
